KYIV (Reuters) – Both a US official and Gabrielus Landsbergis, the foreign minister of Lithuania, announced on Thursday that the first group of much awaited F-16 jets had arrived in Ukraine. Because of the weapons’ potential for destruction and their widespread availability, Ukraine desired them and has been irritated by the drawn-out process of obtaining the US-built aircraft and training its pilots to operate them.
According to the foreign minister of Lithuania and an American official, Ukraine has received the first batch of F-16 fighter jets manufactured in the United States to aid it in its military conflict with Russia.
The long-awaited arrival is a significant achievement for Ukraine, which hasn’t yet made any statements in public.
