(Reuters) – Along with NBCUniversal and the U.S. Olympic and Paralympic Committee, Alphabet’s Google will integrate artificial intelligence (AI) into the American coverage of the Paris Olympics, enabling sports commentators to utilize AI to explain contests. The tech company made this announcement on Thursday.
The three organizations released a statement announcing Google as Team USA’s official search AI partner. This is the first time a digital company has collaborated with the sports nonprofit.
The announcement coincides with NBCUniversal’s modernization of its coverage of the Games, which aims to draw in people who are accustomed to seeing highlights online and others who do not watch live television.
