BRUSSELS: Microsoft’s cooperation with OpenAI may face an EU antitrust inquiry after authorities singled out its exclusivity restrictions, while Google’s artificial intelligence deal with Samsung has also urged scrutiny.

EU antitrust regulators will seek extra third-party perspectives, EU competition Commissioner Margrethe Vestager announced on Friday.

The steps reflect regulators’ concerns about Big Tech using its dominance in new technologies, mimicking the businesses’ market influence in other areas.

In March, Vestager sent questionnaires to Microsoft, Google, Meta’s Facebook, ByteDance’s TikTok, and other major tech companies on their AI partnerships.
