LAHORE: After a stunning victory over PML-N-backed candidates, Mubashir Rehman Chaudhry has been chosen as the Lahore Bar Association’s next president for the 2025–2026 term.
The Professional Group, headed by PTI senator and seasoned attorney Hamid Khan, supported Rehman in Saturday’s poll.
He earned 2,400 votes, compared to 1,807 for Muhammad Faiz Ali, his opponent. Notably, Advocate Adeeb Aslam Bhindar, an independent, received 2,088 votes, 281 more than those of the PML-N-backed party.
The legal community has responded to the election results in a variety of ways, with some voicing discontent with the lawyer organizations supported by the PML-N. Others pointed out that attorneys’ political party affiliations can have a big influence on the LBA elections.
Concerns remained about former bar representatives whose choices had a detrimental impact on the Independent Group, formerly known as the Asma Jahangir Group. This group has lately changed its affiliation to prominent attorney Ahsan Bhoon, who has a strong relationship with the current federal law minister, Azam Nazir Tarar.
Under the direction of Chaudhry Imran Masood, the head of the LBA election board, 14,712 voters were able to cast ballots.
Six candidates ran in the election, three from each of the Model Town and Cantonment courts, for the two vice presidential seats.
The LBA chose Malik Saif Khokhar as its senior vice president with 3,023 votes, and Mian Sharjeel as its senior vice president with 4,476 votes.
