According to Indian media agencies on Monday, Rohit Sharma, the captain of the Indian cricket team, is expected to go to Pakistan before the highly awaited ICC Men’s Champions Trophy 2025 to participate in pre-tournament activities in the host nation.
The fact that an Indian cricket player would be visiting Pakistan for an international tournament for the first time in many years increased the degree of enthusiasm among cricket fans in both nations.
According to the sources, Sharma could go to the Champions Trophy activities, which include the press conference and all-captains’ picture session, as part of the ICC’s marketing strategy.
While the neighboring side has not yet revealed their lineup for the next event, the Indian cricket body has not issued an official statement confirming Sharma’s visit to Pakistan.
From February 19 to March 9, the eight-team competition, which consists of 15 matches, will take place in three locations in Pakistan and Dubai: Karachi, Lahore, and Rawalpindi.
Two groups are formed from the teams. Afghanistan, South Africa, England, and Australia make up Group B, while Pakistan, India, New Zealand, and Bangladesh make up Group A.
On February 19, in Karachi, the curtain-raiser between hosts Pakistan and New Zealand will take place.
India’s first game will be against Bangladesh in Dubai on February 20. Meanwhile, the highly anticipated encounter between India and Pakistan, longtime rivals, is set for February 23 in Dubai.
It is important to note that the next competition will follow a hybrid format, with India playing their matches in Dubai, a neutral location, instead of in Pakistan, the host nation.
After India informed the cricket governing body that it would not send its squad to Pakistan due to political tensions and security concerns, a month-long impasse came to an end last month.
According to a statement issued by the council, “India and Pakistan matches hosted by either country at ICC Events during the 2024-2027 rights cycle will be played at a neutral venue, the ICC Board confirmed.” “This will apply to the upcoming ICC Men’s Champions Trophy 2025 (hosted by Pakistan).”
After agreeing to neutral locations for both teams, the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) changed their mind about playing the Champions Trophy on a hybrid arrangement.
According to the announcement, the deal will also cover the 2026 ICC Men’s T20 World Cup, which will be held by India and Sri Lanka, and the 2025 ICC Women’s Cricket World Cup, which will be hosted by India.
Additionally, it was revealed that the PCB will host the 2028 ICC Women’s T20 World Cup, with neutral venue preparations already in place.
