Kisan Ittehad warns government of protests outside provincial assembly.

On: January 25, 2025

The All Pakistan Kisan Ittehad Group has warned the government to guarantee that farmers receive a fair price for their wheat, or they may be forced to conduct a protest march outside the provincial assembly, according to A News.

Addressing a news conference in Karachi, All Pakistan Kisan Ittehad Group Central Chairman Khalid Hussain Baath stated that the government’s mismanagement is projected to result in a 30 to 40 percent reduction in wheat output.

Khalid Baath informed the federal government that if the farmers’ demands are not granted, they will launch a lengthy march to Islamabad.

He stated that farmers are facing a crisis since production costs are soaring and average yields are at an all-time low.

Khalid Baath stated that the previous year’s per maund wheat price was Rs3900, however wheat was acquired between Rs2300 to 2600. Similarly, rice and sugarcane prices have not been determined.

He stated that the mill owners unilaterally imposed the prices, which were set at Rs400. He claimed sugarcane was purchased from farmers for between 250 and 350 rupees, with Rs60 per maund removed from each cart. Khalid Baath requested that the government immediately focus on fixing the canal system and constructing additional dams. He said that the water does not reach the tail end of the canals since they are not cleaned regularly.

Khalid Baath stated that if farmers do not have the right to their work, they will revolt against the government. He asked the administration to avoid anti-farmer measures.
