Karachi’s traffic police have implemented new restrictions with heavy fines for violators in order to improve road safety and simplify traffic flow, according to A.News on Sunday.
The restrictions target large cars, motorcycles, and rickshaws in an effort to prevent reckless driving and minimize accidents around the city.
To prevent accidents, large vehicles must now be fitted with side railings and under-run bars.
Similarly, oil tankers must include buffer plates to increase safety.
Drivers of large trucks and oil tankers will also undergo drug and tiredness testing to reduce the hazards connected with sleepy or intoxicated driving.
Traffic officials have also tightened motorcycle restrictions, making some acts necessary, such as helmet wear for all riders, operable headlights, and suitable chain covers. Clear and readable number plates are required, and riders must stay in the left lane; offenders will be fined.
The city’s traffic police have installed Automatic Number Plate Recognition (ANPR) cameras to monitor reckless driving, such as jumping red lights and altering lanes indiscriminately. Repeat offenders will face a hefty Rs2,500 punishment, deterring persistent infractions.
The authorities also prohibit Qingqi rickshaws from operating on key highways like as Shahrah-e-Faisal and Rashid Minhas Road.
This move intends to alleviate congestion and improve traffic flow in high-traffic regions.
GPS tracking technologies will be used to monitor movement and assure compliance with road safety rules.
