Rawalpindi: Over 23,000 bikers fined and 970 bikes impounded for not wearing helmets

Dr. Usman Anwar, the Inspector General of Punjab Police, has urged the Rawalpindi City Traffic Police (CTP) to continue cracking down on motorcyclists who do not wear helmets. According to a news release, Taimur Khan, the Chief Traffic Officer (CTO), disclosed that more than 23,000 motorbike riders received fines during the enforcement effort.

As a consequence of the campaign, 970 bikes were confiscated and sent to various police stations because the riders were not wearing helmets. Furthermore, over 30,000 motorcycle riders have been trained on the need of wearing helmets for their safety.

The CTO recommended motorcyclists to invest in a helmet and prioritize their safety rather than paying penalties on a regular basis. He highlighted that the goal of the crackdown is not to issue more fines, but to save lives.

Furthermore, he praised the bikers who followed the rules and complimented the field commanders’ efforts to ensure the campaign’s success.

The CTO noted that motorcyclists are especially vulnerable to injury in everyday traffic incidents. He emphasized the necessity of wearing helmets since they dramatically lower the risk of head injuries and possibly death.
