Outgoing Prime Minister Justin Trudeau stated on Tuesday that there is no “snowball’s chance in hell” that Canada will merge with the United States. His foreign minister also stated that Canada will “never back down” from Donald Trump’s threats.
Trudeau and Foreign Minister Melanie Joly’s remarks came after the US president-elect used “economic force” to push his improbable proposal for Canada to join the US during a press conference.
Trudeau responded to X by saying, “There isn’t a snowball’s chance in hell that Canada would become part of the United States,” while also emphasizing the tight commercial and security connections between the two countries.

Meanwhile, Joly charged that Trump’s comments demonstrated “a complete lack of understanding” of Canada.
“We have a robust economy. We are a powerful people. On the social networking site run by Trump friend Elon Musk, she declared, “We will never back down in the face of threats.”
A day after Congress declared his electoral triumph, Trump gave a rambling press conference on Tuesday.
In order to protect Greenland and the Panama Canal, he also threatened military action.
Since 75 percent of Canada’s exports go to the US, he has already promised to impose 25 percent tariffs on Canadian goods when he takes office on January 20. This might have disastrous consequences for Canada.
In response to the question of whether he would use military force to subdue Canada, the new president responded, “no, economic force.”
Canadian officials are getting ready to strike back, which may turn into a trade war.
