LAHORE — The Lahore High Court (LHC) has been petitioned to rule against postponing general elections in the country for more than 90 days.

The petition was submitted by the Judicial Activism Panel, which included the president, the Election Commission of Pakistan, the federal government, and others.

According to the petitioner, the constitution requires general elections to be held within 90 days following the dissolution of assembly. The petitioner stated that there is little time left following the dissolution of legislatures in August, yet the Election Commission has not made any plans to carry out its constitutional responsibility.

The suit asks the High Court to require the Election Commission to hold polls within 90 days. The petitioner also asked the court to require Pakistan’s president to declare a date for the elections.
