ISLAMABAD – Justice Umar Ata Bandial, Chief Justice of Pakistan (CJP), emphasized that the state has a primary responsibility to protect the rights of minorities.
A Sikh delegation met with Chief Justice Bandial to address issues of mutual interest.
During the discussion, the CJP emphasized that everyone in Pakistan has total religious freedom, and it is the state’s primary responsibility to preserve minority rights.
In his remarks to the group, the Chief Justice emphasized that the courts act as custodians of all people’ basic rights. Judicial judgments have consistently favored minority rights, and significant efforts have been undertaken to preserve their rights and assets.
The Sikh community informed the Chief Justice of their worries about security and the safeguarding of sacred places.
In response, the Chief Justice told the Sikh community that he would bring the matter to the attention of the appropriate authorities.
The Sikh community presented the Chief Justice with a kirpan as a symbol of goodwill, strengthening the link between the Sikh community and the court.
