KARACHI (A News) – Police claimed on Saturday night to have detained over 12 alleged extortionists, two of whom are high-profile, in a raid based on information provided by an under-arrest suspect during questioning, according to Dunya News.

The SIU and the CIA collaborated on the raid in Nazimabad. Jawad Qadri alias Khawaja and Shahzaib Mula were captured during a raid on Qadri House.

According to SIU SSP Dr Imran, the suspects have been implicated in scores of incidents of extorting money from innocent individuals at gunpoint. Police also seized a large cache of illegal firearms, according to the SSP, who said that the move was made based on information from the suspects’ accomplice Rehan, who was captured a few days earlier.

Dr. Imran went on to say that the apprehended individuals had already been charged with murder and attempted murder.

In addition to owning guns, Khatiya Wari ran a network of shooters for targeted executions for extortion.

On the other hand, the Qadri premises leadership denounced the police action as illegal, arguing that the weapons retrieved from the premises were legitimate.

Sarwat Ijaz Qadri stated at a news conference following the police raid, “My family was disrespected, we have always condemned terrorism and made sacrifices, we demand that action be taken against the entire team involved in this raid, otherwise there will be protests across the country.”
