Ukrainian and US officials gathered for hours behind closed doors to discuss how to end the war with Russia, after Kyiv’s military conducted the war’s heaviest drone strike on Moscow overnight.

After more than eight hours of discussions, the two sides released a joint statement saying Ukraine was prepared to accept the US proposal for an immediate, temporary 30-day ceasefire that could be prolonged by mutual agreement, subject to Russia’s consent and execution.

The US will emphasize to Russia that Russian reciprocity is critical to achieving peace, according to the statement.

“The United States will immediately lift the pause on intelligence sharing and resume security assistance to Ukraine,” it stated.

The two sides also stated that Washington and Kyiv agreed to finalize a comprehensive agreement for developing Ukraine’s critical mineral resources as soon as possible, a deal that had been in the works for weeks but was put on hold by an acrimonious White House meeting between US President Donald Trump and Ukraine President Volodymyr Zelenskiy last week.
