(Web Desk) – An airplane carrying 181 passengers crashed at a South Korean airport, killing at least 28 people, according to Yonhap news agency.
According to the South Korean news agency, the aircraft veered off the runway and collided with a wall at Muan International Airport in the country’s southwest.
The Jeju Air jet, which was carrying 175 passengers and six flight attendants, was apparently returning from Thailand when the disaster occurred during landing.
Yonhap reports that one person has been found alive as the rescue operation continues.
According to the local news site, the accident occurred at 9.07 a.m. as the Jeju Air flight was landing in South Jeolla Province, around 280 kilometers from Seoul.
Authorities and emergency services are on the site to investigate the cause of the collision.
According to Yonhap, at least one person has been recovered alive, and a rescue attempt is still continuing.
Footage of the disaster shows the jet skidding on the tarmac without landing gear and unable to stop before colliding with a wall and exploding.
