ISLAMABAD – Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) has raised strong misgivings about the federal committee constituted to oversee the combined tribal areas.
Addressing a news conference alongside former KP governor Shah Farman and Sheikh Waqas Akram, PTI Chairman Barrister Gohar stated that the federal government lacks the jurisdiction to constitute a committee on the subject because the tribal districts have already been united into the province.
Barrister Gohar stated that tribal areas have always been sensitive, and five of the seven MNAs belong to the PTI.
He urged that the federal government abolish the committee immediately.
He argued that the federal government should not interfere in provincial issues.
According to the PTI chairman, the tribal districts are now part of the province as a result of the 25th Amendment, and any legislation affecting the amalgamated districts is subject to the authority of the provincial administration.
He said that 95 percent of FATA voters supported the PTI in the recent election.
Meanwhile, Sheikh Waqas Akram stated that the federal government solely wants authority over mining and minerals in KP.
He stated that PTI will not authorize any operations in FATA.
He questioned the authority under which the prime minister constituted the committee, claiming that the people of FATA and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa are capable of making their own judgments.
Earlier, the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa administration expressed severe reservations about the federal committee established to resolve the amalgamated tribal areas.
Barrister Saif, KP’s Information Advisor, attended the committee meeting in Islamabad on behalf of Chief Minister Ali Amin Gandapur, along with the chief secretary and the inspector general.
He severely criticized the committee’s creation without first informing the province. “KP is the main stakeholder in the merged districts, yet no consultation was held,” he told me.
