ISLAMABAD Jamshed Cheema and his wife Musarrat Cheema have chosen to break up their relationship with impeached Imran Khan, dealing another blow to the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI).

Their attorney, who claimed to have spoken with them separately in prison, verified the news. He said, “I am confident that they would leave the PTI as soon as they were released from jail.”

The husband-and-wife team has been held for the last 12 days as a result of the demonstrations that broke out on May 9 after PTI leader Imran Khan was taken into custody in connection with an Al-Qadir Trust-related corruption case.

Earlier, a number of PTI officials, including Malik Aslam Amin and Hisham Inamullah, left the organisation due to vandalism on May 9, when irate PTI protestors assaulted military and public facilities across many towns.

A day earlier, Chaudhry Shujaat Hussain, the leader of the Pakistan Muslim League (Quaid), reached out to his brother Chaudhry Wajahat Hussain in an effort to bring the nation together via politics after Wajahat announced his resignation from the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI).
