BERLIN (Reuters) – The number of measles cases recorded in Europe quadrupled from the previous year in 2024, reaching its highest level in more than 25 years, according to a World Health Organization and UNICEF data published on Thursday.
According to the World Health Organization, children under the age of five accounted for more than 40% of the 127,350 cases reported last year in the area, which includes 53 nations in Europe and Central Asia.
“Measles has returned, and it’s a wake-up call. “There is no health security without high vaccination rates,” according to Hans Henri P Kluge, WHO regional director for Europe.
