LAHORE (Web Desk) – The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) has written to the International Cricket Council (ICC) over the deletion of Pakistan’s name from the official emblem during the live broadcast of the recent India against Bangladesh Champions Trophy match in Dubai. The situation caused the PCB to formally request an explanation from the ICC.
During the India versus Bangladesh game on February 20, the event logo, “Champions Trophy 2025,” was displayed throughout the live telecast, but the host country’s name, Pakistan, was absent throughout. While broadcasters are contractually obligated to include both the event name and the host nation’s name in all broadcasts, including matches played in Dubai, this protocol was not followed during India’s tournament opener. Interestingly, the logo was correctly displayed during the tournament’s opening match between Pakistan and New Zealand in Karachi, as well as during the Afghanistan versus South Africa game on Friday, February 21.
The removal of Pakistan’s name from the broadcast emblem sparked conjecture and outrage on social media sites. This problem occurred after the Indian government rejected to allow the Indian team to go to Pakistan for the Champions Trophy. The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB), the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI), and the International Cricket Council (ICC) then held long negotiations to establish the tournament’s site. After multiple negotiations, a hybrid approach was eventually agreed upon, with Dubai serving as the location for all of India’s matches.
The ICC reacted swiftly to the incident. According to the report, an ICC official stated that the absence of Pakistan’s name from the broadcast logo during the India versus Bangladesh match was due to a technical error. The representative guaranteed that the official logo, which included Pakistan’s name, will be shown during all future matches featuring India. The ICC official also stated that, while the broadcast had technical difficulties, Pakistan’s name was accurately shown on the emblem used in social media clips.
Meanwhile, all eyes will be on the highly anticipated Champions Trophy match between India and Pakistan on February 23. While India will be full of confidence after an impressive six-wicket win against Bangladesh in their campaign opener. Meanwhile, Pakistan suffered a 60-run defeat over New Zealand in the tournament’s opening match on February 19.
