Following President Asif Ali Zardari’s consent, the Ministry of Law and Justice nominated two new judges to the Islamabad High Court (IHC).
The government has appointed Muhammad Azam Khan and Inaam Ameen Minhas as additional judges of the IHC. The two new extra judges will take their oaths on Monday. Azam Khan and Inaam Ameen Minhas will be sworn in by IHC Chief Justice Aamer Farooq during a ceremony at the IHC.
On January 17, the Judicial Commission of Pakistan held two meetings: one to consider nominations for the appointment of additional judges in the Islamabad High Court, and the second to consider nominations for the appointment of additional judges in the High Court of Balochistan.
During the first meeting, the committee nominated Muhammad Azam Khan, District & Session Judge, and Inaam Ameen Minhas, Advocate Supreme Court, for appointment as additional judges of the Islamabad High Court.
During the second meeting, the committee unanimously proposed Muhammad Asif, Advocate Supreme Court, Muhammad Ayub Khan, Advocate Supreme Court, and Muhammad Najam-ud-Din Mengal, Advocate Supreme Court, for appointment to the High Court of Balochistan.
In both sessions, the Commission unanimously resolved that nominees who did not get the needed majority of the commission’s entire membership to finalize their nominations this time might be renominated for future vacancies.
The JCP received 19 nominations for additional judges for the IHC, with four slots open. The names of three District and Sessions judges—Raja Jawad Abbas Hassan, Azam Khan, and Shahrukh Arjumand—along with Additional Sessions Judge Humayun Dilawar, were sent. Ayaz Shaukat, Advocate General of Islamabad, was also one of the candidates suggested to the JCP.
