ISLAMABAD -On Friday, the Pakistan Telecommunication Company Limited (PTCL) revealed that an international underwater cable had been damaged, causing internet interruptions in Pakistan.
“The teams are working hard to address the issue as quickly as feasible. “We sincerely apologize for any inconvenience caused during this time,” the PTCL stated.
The internet slowness problem exists in Pakistan, and freelancers and those connected with similar activity face the brunt of the burden.
According to a press release from the PTA, the issue was discovered in the AAe-1 underwater cable near Qatar, one of seven lines that handle Pakistan’s foreign Internet traffic.
“Due to this Internet and broadband users may face problems,” according to the PTA.
The PTA stated its staff were trying to resolve the issue.
“PTA is monitoring the situation and will keep telecom users informed from time to time,” according to a statement.
Pakistan has previously claimed difficulties with underwater Internet cables. Internet interruptions during the last few months have harmed millions of Pakistani users, negatively impacting companies and generating countrywide protests.
Pakistan has 110 million Internet users, and nearly half of them are experiencing up to 40% slower Internet connections.
However, digital rights experts have already questioned the government’s statements of Internet outages. Instead, they refer to the government’s decision to erect a firewall to monitor and control material.
