WASHINGTON (Reuters) — Discrimination and violence against Muslims and Palestinians increased by over 70% in the United States in the first half of 2024, owing to increased Islamophobia caused by Israel’s war in Gaza, according to the Council on American-Islamic Relations advocacy group on Tuesday.
Human rights groups have documented a global increase in Islamophobia, anti-Palestinian bigotry, and antisemitism since the outbreak of the Israel-Gaza war in October, which has killed tens of thousands of people and created a humanitarian crisis.
CAIR reported that in the first six months of 2024, it received 4,951 complaints of anti-Muslim and anti-Palestinian incidents, up nearly 70% from the same period in 2023.
