(AP) – Prepare for a doubleheader of meteor showers. Late July is when the Southern Delta Aquariid meteor shower peaks. Additionally, it will fall on the same day as the Alpha Capricornids, a second, lesser meteor shower this year.
Every year in the late summer, there are the Delta Aquariids in North America. The highest activity of the year is expected to occur early on Tuesday morning, with 15 to 20 meteors per hour predicted to be seen under dark skies in the Northern Hemisphere. In the Southern Hemisphere, viewing should be much more enjoyable.
The American Meteor Society states that the shower is expected to continue until August 21. The Alpha Capricornid meteor shower, which continues through August 15, is expected to generate five meteors per hour at about the same time.
