Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf has petitioned the Supreme Court of Pakistan (SC) to stop Imran Khan, the party’s chairman, from being detained in connection with the Al-Qadir Trust case.
The matter is being heard in front of a three-judge panel with PTI attorneys present, led by Chief Justice of Pakistan Umar Ata Bandial and included Justices Athar Minallah and Muhammad Ali Mazhar.
Imran Khan’s arrest was deemed “lawful” by the Islamabad High Court (IHC), but the PTI has appealed this decision. Imran Khan was detained unlawfully, according to the PTI, who demanded his immediate release.
IHC Decision
Tuesday night, the IHC deemed Imran Khan’s arrest to be “legal.” By recognising the NAB’s viewpoint, IHC Chief Justice Amir Farooq pronounced the reserved verdict. It had previously reserved judgement on whether the arrest, which had taken place hours earlier, was legal or not.
Imran Khan was taken into custody by a team of Rangers on the grounds of the court where the PTI leader had appeared in two cases. The CJ acted quickly after this.
Imran Khan had previously been taken into custody by a National Accountability Bureau (NAB) team with the assistance of Rangers, which caught the IHC’s attention. Imran Khan did not respond to the notices that were sent to him, according to the NAB, and his arrest was “completely in line with law and as per NAB ordinance.”
Retired Lt. Gen. Nazir Ahmed, the NAB chairman, signed the warrant for Imran’s arrest. It stated that Section 9(a) of the National Accountability Ordinance, 1999 charged the PTI head of corruption and corrupt practises.
