The governor of KP has invited the ECP to a consultation on the election date.

PESHAWAR — Governor of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP), Haji Ghulam Ali, has called the Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) to a meeting to discuss conducting elections in the state.

In connection with the timetable for the elections in the province, Mr Ali had addressed a letter on Monday to the electoral watchdog and requested the ECP for dialogue on March 7 or March 8.

Mr Ali stated, “In line with the Supreme Court’s directions, I have submitted a letter to the ECP.” He swore to execute the directives of the supreme court.

Earlier on Saturday, Mr Ali said the polls date for the KP Assembly was scheduled to be announced on March 6.

Addressing to media in Peshawar, the governor said the Election Commission of Pakistan’s letter to his principal secretary was received at 8pm on Friday and the secretary will examine the document personally when he returns from vacation on Monday.

On March 3, President Dr Arif Alvi granted consent to April 30 date to hold the all-important elections in Punjab.

The electoral board previously proposed a date between April 30 and May 7 for elections in the province where the assembly was dissolved in January last year in a letter to President Arif Alvi. The letter was sent after Chief Election Commissioner (CEC) Sikandar Sultan Raja led a meeting of the ECP officials.
