ISLAMABAD : — Speakers of the Punjab and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP) legislatures petitioned the Supreme Court of Pakistan (SCP) again on Monday to set a date for provincial elections.
Province governors, the Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP), President Dr Arif Alvi, and the governments of Punjab and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP) have all been named as respondents.
According to the petition, more than a month had passed since the dissolution of the legislatures, but the governors had failed to declare the date for elections. “The Supreme Court should instruct the provincial governors to publish the poll date since the constitution requires the ECP to hold elections within a certain time period,” he said.
