The military’s propaganda wing reported on Monday that security troops in a remote area of Balochistan had killed up to 27 militants during an intelligence-based operation.
According to a statement from Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR), security personnel carried out the IBO in the Kacchi district of Balochistan on January 12 in response to reports of terrorist activity in the region.
Troops “effectively surrounded & engaged the terrosits’ location, and after an intense fire exchange, twenty-seven terrorists were sent to hell” during the operation.
The ISPR stated that the operation also destroyed a number of hideouts, including stores of explosives, ammunition, and weapons.
“Security forces of Pakistan, in step with the nation, remain determined to thwart attempts at sabotaging peace, stability and progress of Balochistan.”
Since the Taliban regained control of Afghanistan in 2021, the country has been seeing an increase in violent assaults, especially in the neighboring regions of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and Balochistan.
According to the Centre for Security and Strategic Studies’ “CRSS Annual Security Report 2024,” with at least 685 fatalities and 444 terror incidents, 2024 proved to be the worst year for Pakistan’s military and civil security personnel in a decade.
Equally alarming were the cumulative losses of civilians and security personnel, i.e., 1,612 fatalities, accounting for over 63% of the total recorded this year, marking 73% more losses compared to 934 outlaws eliminated, The News reported citing CRSS report.
The overall fatalities recorded the previous year were a record 9-year high and over 66% more than in 2023. On average, nearly seven people lost their lives daily, with November emerging as the deadliest month across all metrics, compared to all other months of the year.
KP suffered the most from the violence, accounting for 1,616 of all fatalities, followed by Balochistan with 782. The nation saw 2,546 violence-related deaths and 2,267 injuries among criminals, security guards, and citizens in 2024.
This number of deaths resulted from 1,166 terror attack and counterterrorism operations, making it a dismal year for the nation’s security environment.
