BRAZIL (Reuters) – Leading a conservative rally on Saturday, former far-right president of Brazil Jair Bolsonaro hopes to mobilise support for allied candidates in this year’s local elections and project his power ahead of the 2026 presidential contest.

The first significant opposition gathering of the campaign for the October local mayoral elections is scheduled for the CPAC Brasil 2024 event, which will take place at the beach resort of Balneario Camboriu in Southern Brazil.

With the participation of former Chilean right-wing presidential candidate Jose Antonio Kast and libertarian president of Argentina Javier Milei, it will also have a regional component.
