LAHORE: The Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) changed their nominee for Punjab chief minister on Saturday following deliberations, citing the present political environment, according to A News.
On X (previously Twitter), PTI Secretary General Hammad Azhar introduced Rana Aftab Ahmad Khan as the party’s new candidate for Punjab Chief Minister.
He said that party founder Imran Khan had previously nominated Mian Aslam Iqbal for the position, but large police forces were posted outside the Punjab Assembly to arrest him.
Citing the scenario, Hammad Azhar stated that the party leadership decided to select Rana Aftab after consulting with the former.
It is worth noting here that the PTI has nominated Mian Aslam Iqbal for Punjab chief minister, Salar Khan for Balochistan chief minister, and Ali Amin Gandapur for Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP) chief executive.
Barrister Gohar Ali Khan made the declaration during a meeting at Adiala Jail with PTI founder Imran Khan.
Iqbal was one of numerous PTI leaders proclaimed absconders in the May 9 case. On May 9, 2023, an anti-terrorism court in Lahore declared 11 PTI candidates absconders.
In Friday’s inaugural session, 85 PTI members who had joined the Sunni Ittehad Council were sworn in.
The Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) has nominated Maryam Nawaz for chief minister.
