LAHORE – The Punjab President of the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI), Chaudhry Parvez Elahi, was not to be arrested in any unnamed case, according to a single bench decision that was restored by the Lahore High Court on Monday.
After hearing arguments about the issue of giving bail to former chief minister Chaudhry Parvez Elahi in secret cases, a two-member LHC bench led by Justice Muhammad Waheed Khan announced the decision.
The single bench’s verdict had been contested at the high court by the Punjab government.
Earlier, the National Accountability Bureau (NAB) released a report on an investigation into allegations that Parvez Elahi had engaged in corruption in the awarding of contracts.
In cooperation with his close associates, the PTI leader authorized 116 development initiatives for Gujarat, according to the NAB investigation.
The former chief minister was charged in the report with abusing his position and power.
The NAB charged him with exploiting his power to favor his preferred contractors when awarding contracts for schemes.
