ISLAMABAD: Asad Umar, the former secretary-general of the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI), has been detained, according to sources cited by A News on Sunday.

After learning that the former prime minister was deliberately involved in abusing the confidential document, an investigation by the FIA’s counter-terrorism department led to the case being filed against him. The former prime minister was removed from office in April of last year after a no-confidence motion.

Asad Umar, a former federal minister, was apprehended in Islamabad as part of a cipher investigation.

Former foreign minister and vice chairman of the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI), Shah Mehmood Qureshi, had earlier been detained at his Islamabad home.

Shah Mehmood Qureshi, vice chairman of the PTI, was detained in connection with the Cypher case and sent to the FIA’s main office.

It is important to note that Azam Khan, a former principal secretary to the PTI chairman and former prime minister, made shocking claims and said that the former PM utilized US cypher for his ‘political benefits’ and to prevent a motion of no-confidence against him.

Khan, who had been “missing” for several months, suddenly materialized in front of the scene and made shocking discoveries regarding the US Cipher while recording his testimony under the CrPC 164 in front of a court.

The PTI leader stated that on September 28 of last year, a leaked recording of the former prime minister and his adviser Azam Khan discussing US cypher was released.

Azam Khan is heard telling the former prime minister Khan about the contentious diplomatic cable in the reported call.
