SLAMABAD (A News) – According to Dunya News, President Dr Arif Alvi dissolved the National Assembly on the suggestion of Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif on Wednesday night.

The president has signed the summary for dissolution of the National Assembly given by the prime minister. With the dissolution of the National Assembly, the federal cabinet is also dissolved.

“The president dissolved the National Assembly on the advice of the prime minister under Article 58-1 of the Constitution,” according to an official statement made by the President’s Office on X, previously known as Twitter.

According to reports, Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif signed the summary for dissolution of the National Assembly earlier in the day and forwarded it to the president for final approval.

Shehbaz Sharif will remain prime minister until a caretaker prime minister is appointed.

The Election Commission of Pakistan would be required by the Constitution to hold general elections within 90 days following the dissolution of the National Assembly.

Earlier in the day, the Senate passed a resolution requiring the Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) to take efforts to prepare for the 2018 general elections in accordance with the country’s Constitution.

Senator Mushtaq Ahmad of Jamat-e-Islami (JI) tabled the motion to the upper chamber, demanding that all state institutions support the ECP in organizing the elections.
