The recently passed Pakistan Army (Amendment) Bill, 2023, which calls for up to five years in prison for anyone who divulges sensitive information about the army or disparages the armed forces in any way, was supported by the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI), which announced on Saturday that it would take action against its senators found “guilty” of voting for it.

On July 27, the upper house of parliament unanimously adopted a bill to alter the Pakistan Army Act, 1952, calling for severe punishment for individuals who reveal classified information concerning the nation’s security or armed services.

The change happened following today’s core committee meeting of the PTI, which Imran Khan, the party’s leader, presided over.
