On Saturday, Fawad Asadullah Khan was named director general of the Intelligence Bureau (IB) by Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif.

According to a formal notification, the appointment was made on a contract basis for a three-year period.

He was given additional responsibility as the DG IB for a year by the ruling coalition in December last year. Now that he has full control over the bureau, the contract has been revoked.

The first IB official to be promoted to the rank of DG is Fawad Asadullah Khan, a grade 22 officer.
