During a visit intended at repairing tense relations, Treasury Secretary Janet Yellen urged China’s No. 2 leader not to allow displeasure about U.S. restrictions on access to processor chips and other technologies undermine economic cooperation.

During a meeting with Premier Li Qiang, Yellen stated that Washington and Beijing must work together on global concerns. She urged “regular channels of communication” at a time when ties are at an all-time low owing to disagreements over technology, security, and other irritants.

Yellen is one of several senior US officials who will travel to Beijing to push Chinese authorities to rekindle relations between the world’s two largest economies.
