In response to Russia’s invasion of Ukraine, Denmark’s government declared on Tuesday that it will treble its defence expenditure over the next ten years.
Denmark plans to meet NATO’s objective of spending 2% of GDP on defence by 2030, a benchmark that few of the alliance’s 30 members have ever met.
“The government wants to significantly strengthen Danish defence and security with approximately 143 billion kroner ($20.5 billion) over the next 10 years,” interim Defence Minister Troels Lund Poulsen said in a statement.
