In response to the violent protests of May 9, Ali Zaidi, the leader of Imran Khan’s party’s Sindh chapter, declared on Saturday that he was resigning from all party positions. For the former prime minister, this was yet another setback.
On May 9, the former marine minister of the federal government released a video statement condemning the vandalism and declaring his intention to leave politics and all party positions.
“I became involved in politics to help Pakistan. I repudiate the actions of May 9 once more,” he said. He gave the military high accolades, declaring, “The armed forces are the pride of Pakistan and we sleep peacefully because of them as they protect our borders.”
