ISLAMABAD: Federal Minister for Law Azam Nazeer Tarar will present the 27th constitutional amendment bill in the Senate on Monday, as the upper house session begins at 11:00 a.m. at the Parliament House.
Senator Farooq H. Naik was scheduled to give the Joint Parliamentary Committee for Law and Justice’s report on the constitutional bill in the Senate.
Law Minister Azam Nazeer Tarar will present the 27th constitutional amendment bill during the session.
The 27th constitutional amendment measure will be brought in the National Assembly after it has been approved by the Senate, and the NA session has been called for 4:00 PM today.
The joint parliamentary committee adopted the Federal Constitutional Court clause on Sunday during a meeting at Parliament House while evaluating the draft law clause by clause.
The parliament committee also adopted the article governing judicial transfers. “The judge who does not consent to move will be considered retired. The retiring judge will be eligible to a pension and other benefits.
“Three more amendments were also presented to the parliamentary committee from the government’s allied parties the ANP, BAP and MQM” , according to sources.
In their revision, the ANP advocated removing the word ‘Khyber’ from ‘Khyber Pakhtunkhwa’ and naming the province “Pakhtunkhwa”.
The MQM proposed an amendment regarding local council revenues, whilst the BAP proposed an amendment to increase the number of seats in the Balochistan Assembly.
The committee was unable to reach a decision on the constitutional proposals of the government’s partner parties.
Azam Nazeer Tarar, Federal Minister for Law, told reporters that a breakthrough on the MQM request is expected today, while negotiations on changing the name of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and increasing seats in the Balochistan Assembly are continuing.
