NEW YORK (AP) — At the Cathedral of St. John the Divine, approximately 7 miles north of the World Trade Center, Philippe Petit performed a death-defying act that was inspired by his famous high-wire walk between the twin towers of New York City, which he accomplished 50 years ago.
Instead than focusing on the terrible end of the twin towers in a terrorist assault on September 11, 2001, the 74-year-old artist chose to honor the “glorious days of the twin towers”.
Following his performance on Wednesday, Petit said to The Associated Press, “I don’t have to remind people of the doomed day.”
Petit stated that he wanted to pay tribute to the towers’ heritage as well as his amazing accomplishment.
