(Web Desk) – During the Rim of the Pacific (RIMPAC) 2024 exercise, the US Air Force tested Quicksink, a guided bomb that targets marine vessels like a torpedo.
During RIMPAC 2024, participant ships and planes carried out long-planned live-fire sinking exercises (SINKEXs), sinking the decommissioned USS Dubuque (LPD 8) and the retired USS Tarawa (LHA 1).
The US claimed both were sunk in 15,000-foot-deep waters more than 50 nautical miles off the northern coast of Kauai.
During the SINKEXs, units from Australia, Malaysia, the Netherlands, the Republic of Korea, and the United States Air Force, Army, and Navy practiced tactics, targeting, and live fire on surface ships.
