DHAKA (Reuters) – Telecommunications and television news channels in Bangladesh were largely blocked on Friday due to violent student protests against government job quotas, which have resulted in nearly two dozen deaths this week.

The authorities did not immediately provide an update.

According to the French news agency AFP, 32 people have died as a result of the violence on Thursday. In addition to the six deaths earlier in the week, Reuters had reported that 13 people had died. However, the higher number could not be readily verified.
