ISLAMABAD — Justice Athar Minallah of the Supreme Court has stated that judges must be autonomous and aware that they are not being influenced by anybody.
Addressing the judges at the Federal Judicial Academy, the Supreme Court judge stated that they should not be persuaded and must follow the law at all costs, adding that only independent-minded judges can assure justice and fair play.
Justice Athar Minallah stated that only independent judges can instill trust in the judiciary, and judges should be trained in such a way that they naturally feel independent when sitting in court.
He stated that judges must be independent both individually and institutionally since the notion of a free judiciary is incomplete without independent judges.
According to Justice Minallah, “Imam Abu Hanifa’s code of conduct for judges could revolutionise our judiciary.”
He encouraged the judges to review and act on Imam Abu Hanifa’s rule of behavior.
The Supreme Court justice emphasized the need of judges receiving training in areas such as cryptocurrency and artificial intelligence.
