MASTUNG – A ‘strong’ bomb in the Balochistani province of Mastung resulted in at least 30 fatalities and more than 50 injuries,
The DHQ Hospital is receiving the injured. The event happened in a market off of Al Falah Road close to Madina Masjid. Police, members of the Bomb Disposal Squad, and Rescue 1122 ambulances are on the site.
In all hospitals, a state of emergency has been proclaimed. Shortly after the event, security personnel blocked off the area.
DSP Nawaz Gashkori was one of those who perished. A suicide bomber detonated himself among a crowd of people, claims a Counter Terrorism Department (CTD) Balochistan spokesperson.
A bomb in the same neighborhood earlier this month injured at least 11 people, including Hafiz Hamdullah, the leader of Jamiat Ulema-i Islam-Fazl (JUI-F).
According to a statement from his spokeswoman, Maqbool Baqar, the interim chief minister of Sindh, denounced the explosion.
The chief minister declared that those responsible for sacrificing the lives of innocent people are “enemies of humanity” in a statement.
Deputy Inspector General of Police Munir Ahmed told Reuters that the bomber “detonated himself near the vehicle of the Deputy Superintendent of Police” and that the blast occurred close to a mosque where people were assembling for a procession to celebrate the Prophet Mohammad (SAW)’s birthday, a public holiday.
