As monsoon rains demolish hearth and home, fifty people are killed in the country

Floods and landslides caused by monsoon rains that have ravaged Pakistan since last month have killed at least 50 people, including eight children, according to officials on Friday.

Every year, between June and September, the summer monsoon brings 70-80 percent of South Asia’s annual rainfall.

It is vital for the livelihoods of millions of farmers and food security in a region of over two billion people, but it also causes landslides and floods.

“Fifty deaths have been reported in various rain-related incidents across Pakistan since the start of the monsoon on June 25,” the survey said.
