One of the most well-known kabuki actors in Japan was arrested on Tuesday on suspicion of assisting his mother’s suicide after both of his parents were discovered unconscious at his home last month, according to local media.
As they showed video of a car reportedly driving Ennosuke Ichikawa from a hospital to a police station, public broadcaster NHK and other outlets confirmed Ennosuke Ichikawa’s detention, citing police sources.
Ichikawa, a 47-year-old star of traditional theatre who has performed in London, Amsterdam, and the Paris Opera House, was taken into custody.
Rescue personnel found Ichikawa’s 76-year-old kabuki actor father and his 75-year-old mother unconscious at his apartment in the capital.
