DUNYA NEWS – ISLAMABAD The Chief Justice of Pakistan (CJP), Umar Ata Bandial, stated on Friday that the supreme court would welcome any remedy against Article 184(3) of the Pakistani Constitution if it is carried out cautiously.
The comments were made while a three-member Supreme Court bench considered several challenges against the Supreme Court (Review of Judgements and Orders) Act, 2023, and the Election Commission of Pakistan’s (ECP) review of the decision establishing May 14 as the date for the Punjab Assembly elections.
The Chief Justice (CJ) had previously declared that the new law, which broadened the scope of review petitions under Article 184(3), was not opposed by the supreme court, but that the statute’s implementation presented a challenge.
