On Friday, air raid sirens sounded and at least two explosions shook Kyiv as African leaders started a peace mission to arbitrate between Ukraine and Russia.
The African group, which includes the presidents of Egypt, Senegal, the Comoros, and South Africa, was scheduled to meet with Russian President Vladimir Putin in St. Petersburg on Saturday before meeting with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskiy.
In the heart of Kiev, a Reuters witness reported hearing two explosions. In addition, Mayor Vitali Klitschko reported explosions in the central Podil neighbourhood and issued a missile alert for the capital.
