LAHORE– Police failed to apprehend Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) president Parvez Elahi on Thursday, but they maintained their siege outside the PTI leader’s home on the Zahoor Elahi Road till this report was filed.
Following the termination of Parvez Elahi’s bail by an anti-corruption court, a large police presence arrived at his home. A charge has been filed against the PTI president at the Ghalib Market police station for meddling in state matters, as well as squandering authority and anomalies in development funding.
According to sources, DIG Operations Sadiq Ali Dogar, SP Operations Model Town Ammara Sherazi, and SSP Operations Sohaib Ashraf, together with a large detachment of police, arrived at Parvez Elahi’s house.
Parvez Elahi’s legal team advised the police that he was not present in the residence and that they would assist with the police in searching the house when the arrest warrant is presented.
Meanwhile, the PTI president’s spokesman said that the police searched the whole residence and departed empty-handed since Elahi was not there.
According to sources, all routes leading to Mr Elahi’s home were closed. “Police also searched houses and a private school adjacent to Mr Elahi’s residence,” according to sources.
Previously, a Lahore anti-corruption court denied Mr Elahi’s bail application in a case involving suspected corruption in development projects.
Mr Elahi’s counsel informed the court that the former chief minister was suffering from chest trouble and would be unable to present.
The prosecution claimed that the medical certificate presented in court by Parvez Elahi’s attorney was forged.
The court denied Parvez Elahi’s temporary release request due to noncompliance, and it also denied the PTI leaders’ request for a day attendance waiver.
