ISLAMABAD – The third and final session of negotiations between the governing coalition and the PTI will take place on Tuesday at 11 a.m., after the second meeting closed on Friday with expectations of a thaw.
Finance Minister Ishaq Dar said that the negotiations were going well. “We will put two suggestions put forward by the PTI before the allies,” he continued. We saw progress, he said, and there was no deadlock on either side.
Speaking to the media following the meeting, PTI Vice Chairman Shah Mehmood Qureshi said that the discussion began with the mention of arrests of PTI activists. “We will travel to Lahore tomorrow and take Mr Khan into confidence,” he continued.
PTI Senior Vice President Fawad Chaudhry said that their ideas have been sent to the government. “However, it should be noted that 33 PTI activists were arrested without cause during PTI chief Imran Khan’s appearance before the IHC,” he said.
He went on to add that arrests would damage the bargaining process. “If you want things to settle down, arrests must stop,” he continued. He said that PTI leader Farrukh Habib was prevented from visiting overseas.
Earlier, sources said the government did not appear to be agreeing to the PTI’s demand of holding elections in May because doing so would be impossible given the country’s current economic situation. “The government also cited its negotiations with the IMF,” according to insiders.
According to reports, the PTI urged to the administration that the National Assembly be dissolved immediately after the budget was presented. “It was also suggested that the date of dissolution be announced before presenting the budget,” according to insiders.
However, if the PTI demonstrates flexibility, the government may hold elections in August, according to sources.
The PTI presented the government with three conditions: dissolve the National Assembly (NA) and other provincial assemblies, amend the constitution to hold general elections simultaneously in the country, which required NA Speaker Raja Pervaiz Ashraf to accept the PTI MNAs’ resignations, and hold general elections in July, according to sources.
after a casual interaction with journalists after his appearance at the IHC, Mr Khan said that his party would begin negotiations with the government only if the governing coalition was willing to dissolve the legislatures and hold elections immediately.
Negotiations came after the Supreme Court advised both parties to engage in negotiation in order to achieve an agreement, as well as reminding the government that its decision to conduct elections on May 14 would be effective if both parties failed to reach an agreement.
Today, Fawad Chaudhry wanted to see “negotiations moving forward.”
