ISLAMABAD : – Imran Khan, Chairman of the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI), addressed the Islamabad Sessions Court on Monday to have the non-bailable arrest warrants issued against him in the Toshakhana case quashed.
The plea was presented in court by Mr Khan’s counsel.
Extra judge Zafar Iqbal had already issued arrest warrants for Mr Khan after he failed to appear before the court despite several orders requiring him to do so.
On Sunday, the capital police arrived to Mr Khan’s apartment in Zaman Park, but he allegedly “dodged” them. A few hours later, when speaking to party workers, Mr Khan sought a public hearing on the matter.
Previously, the PTI petitioned the Supreme Court for the PTI head to appear in court through video connection.
The letter to the Supreme Court said that the PTI chief’s recent appearance in the Islamabad High Court had security flaws and that the charges against him were a conspiracy to make him susceptible to an assault. As a result, it was urged in court to enable the appearance through video connection.
The registrar’s office of the Lahore High Court (LHC) had previously expressed an objection to petitions submitted by Mr Khan seeking precautionary bail in two cases recorded at the Ramna police station in Islamabad.
The registrar stated that the copies of the protective bails obtained by PTI leaders Mian Aslam Iqbal and Farrukh Habib in the same cases were not attached to the petitions filed by Mr Khan, who is facing arrest after a court in Islamabad issued non-bailable arrest warrants for his failure to appear in cases.
