LAHORE – Asad Umar, secretary general of Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI), said on Saturday that the court should call Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) senior vice president Maryam Nawaz and other federal ministers in contempt of court proceedings due to their grave claims against the judiciary.

He told the media that it seemed the law was inactive in the nation and that the Supreme Court of Pakistan (SCP) should take legal action against lawbreakers. “The constitution is being subverted without fear, since Interior Minister Rana Sanaullah personally gave audio records to the public,” he said. He said that their objective was to attack the judiciary and that they were exerting pressure on it.

According to him, there is no uncertainty in conducting elections in Punjab and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa within ninety days [after the dissolution of legislatures]. “They [the government] consider the action of the judiciary to be appropriate if it reinstates Mrs. Nawaz’s passport, yet a contempt of court case was filed against me when I expressed my displeasure with the court’s delayed action on the Arshad Sharif murder case,” he continued.
